Pastoral Transition

Dear Christ Church Family,

Eleven and a half years ago, we asked the Lord to make his face to shine upon Christ Church that we may experience his saving deliverance (Psalm 80.3). It was a humble prayer calling on God to pour out his renewing power in a season of deep challenge. Through the years, the Lord has faithfully answered our request for help, rebuilding and restoring our church. Today, Christ Church is a warm and vibrant multi-generational congregation, grounded in the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ. Our church’s ministry is a blessing to all of us, as well as to our city and to many beyond.

Given the reality of God’s kindness among us, it is very difficult to share this personal update. However, through many prayers and tears, I have accepted the nomination of the Pastoral Search Committee at ChristChurch Presbyterian in Atlanta, GA to serve as their next Lead Pastor, pending congregational and presbytery approval. This is difficult for us, because the Colson family loves Christ Church and the rich partnership we share together in the Gospel. The bonds of affection that we experience are strong; however, we are sure that God has clearly re-directed us to Atlanta for this next season of ministry. It will be painful to leave you all. But we are confident in the love of Christ for his church. So, as we venture into this new call, Melissa and I entrust ourselves, and the beloved members of Christ Church, to our faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who never fails his people.

In the coming weeks, the Colson family looks forward to worshipping with you and enjoying the good things God has entrusted to Christ Church as we prepare to transition. Our last Sunday will be on November 16, 2025. The Session will be in touch with further details about the transition soon. In the meantime, be assured that our Associate Pastor, John Lawler, and our elders will provide strong and intentional leadership during the interim as a search for the next pastor ensues. Though pastoral transitions possess unique challenges, I am confident that God will strengthen our community, provide for our needs, and continue to bless Christ Church as we walk humbly in dependence upon him.

Thank you for your grace and goodness to the Colson family throughout my time serving as your pastor. It has been a privilege to shepherd this congregation. May God’s richest blessings, which are yours in Christ Jesus, continue to follow you on your way.

Grace & Peace in Jesus Christ,

Rev. Dr. Chuck Colson
Pastor, Christ Church
